Philadelphia's independent filmmakers will be on view with selected screenings of films aired on the WYBE original series, Philadelphia Stories, a station staple since 2000. Treasures from the International House Film Archive

International House, 3701 Chestnut Street

Philadelphia steering committee member, Film @ International House will present 2 gems from their growing film archive. Menilmontant (Dmitri Kirsanov, 1924, France, 35 mins, 16mm, silent w/ music score) is unquestionably, one of the most remarkable and innovative amateur films ever made. Frank Peregini's The Scar of Shame (1927, USA, 68 mins, 16mm, silent w/ live musical accompaniment) is a rare surviving silent example of what the movie industry once labeled "race movies" shot in the Philadelphia suburbs, it was the first film of the Colored Players Film Corporation. Open to the public, admission charged.

An evening of live performance and video mixing plus and a local film curators slam hosted by one of Philadelphia's pioneering cultural venues.

Starting at 8:00 pm, Mike Bonanno of The Yes Men will explain the bizarre circumstances by which their website was confused with the WTO's and how this confusion resulted in invitations to speak as the WTO. The storytelling will be enhanced by multimedia -- including projected images, music, and video -- as well as theatrical props. This Yes Men roadshow features uproarious unreleased footage from their adventures. Though out the evening, internationally known DJ/VJ Art Jones will perform a live audio-visual mix with sampled news and commercial footage, text and original digital video and animation accompanied by an experimental dub, hip-hop and electronic noise mix. Working with laptops and analog audio/video sources, he will create an abstract narrative collage on the walls of the café at the Bride. The local Curator's Slam will close out the evening at 10:00 pm as local film programmers through down shorts programs interpreting the conference theme – Taking Liberties!
